Here are our broiler chicks at about six weeks. We’ve sectioned off a third of the garden for their pen. One year our peas did poorly in this section, the next cucumbers didn’t produce and last year we got no zucchini. When you can’t even grow zucchini something must be wrong! The first year of gardening here we grew a bumper crop of corn but it’s been downhill ever since. We’ve been adding organic matter old, black hay and straw from the stack yard along with loads of cow, sheep and turkey manure. It’s coming along but this section is still struggling. Hopefully the chickens can revive this spot. Next year we’ll move the chicks to another third of the garden.
(The black chicks are layers but I’ve got to do some research to see how long before they start laying.)
