This summer has yielded considerably less writing time than I had hoped. One reason being the many summer projects I enjoy with my children. Practicing and performing a play with my children, nieces, and nephews is one my favorite summer activities despite the large amount of time and work–oh, and patience involved. (Thanks to my sister in-law Stacy for handling the music portion of the play!)
Since I’ve been studying quite a few books about writing, I decided to analyze the play as a writer. This, I decided, would make up for all the missed writing time. The play, I discovered, contained many of the same critical elements that make a novel worth reading. Here are my findings:

I don’t write in the summer either, except journal writing, which I am obsessive about. But here’s my reason, the laptop is too warm on my lap to make writing comfortable. Same as why I don’t knit in the summer…the yarn is too hot! But in the winter,ahhh! I sometimes which I lived in northern Minnesota, where my mom and sister live. with the longer winters I would get a lot more writing time in!
